SUMMARY:Joyce Ch'ng at Singapore Writers Festival
DESCRIPTION:Joyce Ch’ng\, author of Fire Heart\, will be a panelist for “Spirits\, Serpents and Sacred Fears: Mystical Belief in Fiction” at Singapore Writers Festival. Panel will be held in the Blue Room of the Arts House at the Old Parliament Building. \n\nAbout\n\n\nEvery culture carries its share of spirits. The gods who answer prayers\, the serpents who swallow moons\, the superstitions whispered by grandmothers that no one dares to ignore. They are living architectures of meaning\, and for writers across Southeast Asia\, they are irresistible materials. \nIn this panel\, three writers from across the region reflect on the craft and conscience of drawing on faith\, folklore and folk belief in fiction. They discuss how superstition functions differently from mythology – more intimate\, more domestic\, more stubbornly alive in the present. What does it mean to bring these beliefs into narratives for contemporary readers\, young and old? \n\n\n\nBook Signing\n\nThere will be a Book Signing session within the programme venue with the presenters after this programme. Aside from books\, the presenter will not be signing additional memorabilia. \nWe strongly encourage you to purchase your books before the programme at the Festival Bookstore or any book sale sites across our festival spaces. In the event of a long queue\, we seek your patience and understanding in following instructions from SWF staff to ensure a fair chance for everyone getting a signed copy.
